Supper theatre or as it’s called these days the young center for performing arts, has been a great place to enjoy high quality theatre performances.
Recently, I watched a wonderful production “Alice in Wonderland” a performance by the Bad Hat theatre group.
Soulpepper theatre is conveniently located in the historical distillery district. This means that you can enjoy the neighbourhood after or before watching the performance.
Soulpepper offers a few snacks or drinks if you’re hungry. We got teas and coffees but i noticed some people got beer.
There are on street and underground parking in distillery if you decide to walk there.
This experience has always been outstanding for me. Most recently I saw “Casey and Diana” and it was extremely well done! Venus is small and there is not a bad seat in the house!
SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL by Raha Javanfar.
What an amazing performance by a super talented group of musicians. A devilish treat for one’s soul in these cold days. From the classical violin, through the roots of blues and jazz, to rock n roll, a musical journey and beautiful stories for all music lovers. Simply spectacular, Toronto 💕🎶
I wish I could give this theatre 5 stars. I would have and I will explain why I didn’t. It’s a small thing but an important thing. The space is lovely, it’s beautiful and they have a bevy of wonderful productions. We went for a community movie night and we were so excited. It was their first so we will give grace and hope this does not deter but more gets improved. The issue was they were clearly not prepared for the event. Which we saw on a couple of community and city platforms social - so they had to known it would be fairly decently attended. The issue was there was no seating set up and there wasn’t enough seating. The staff were trying to set up while people were on the space. It’s a relatively small space and it was clear that people were uncomfortable and as someone beside us said “I definitely didn’t expect gym mats at this theatre.” The idea is fantastic - community movie nights. The roll out of the actual experience was not. It’s fairly dangerous to also try setting up in a space that probably has a seating capacity of 50 with 30+ people already in it. The presenter of the night was clearly taken aback by the turn out which is such a positive thing and why I hate having to write this. You can’t set up and tear down with guests in the space. It’s not really safe and sends a very different message than what this theatre is known for. The movie was great. The concept was great. The way the roll out happened, not so great. Really hope this is taken constructively and can be improved on. There is really a special idea here and opportunity to engage the community and with some better preparation. This could be a really wonderful regular event. My partner and I have been here many times and will continue to come as it’s such a great theatre. Again, we give grace and hope this is taken constructively and know it the feedback is shared with respect and adoration for the theatre.
We just saw the incredible production of Casey and Diana at Soulpepper Theatre. It was so engaging and heartfelt, full of raw emotion, wit, sadness and love. The play was also very uplifting in reminding us about that difficult time and how a Princess and dedicated staff made a positive difference in the lives of Casey House residents. Everyone in our party of 4 felt very much moved by this superb production.
Detroit Music of the Motor city show opening night was AMAZING! Absolutely loved this show and the vibe at the Soulpepper Theatre. The team here is incredibly kind, knowledgeable and passionate about the theatre industry.
We were able to get drinks before and after the show and socialize with others in our community.
Definitely a must see!!
We recently attended 'On a Night Like This'. It was the most fantastic live performance my wife and I had ever seen. Each of the 9 performers were spectacular in their own way. We were particularly blow away by Emily Schultz's drumming on the song Talking Heads song 'Burning Down the House', and Jacob Gorzhaltsan's oboe / clarinet solo.
Definitely worth attending!
Small theater but could really indulge audiences into the scenes the performers deliver.
